The basic concept of vitamin K2-7

Vitamin K2 (menaquinones, menaphthoquinone) is a kind of trace fat soluble vitamin produced by the beneficial bacteria in the human intestine. It is a derivative of the naphthoquinone group with the biological activity of phylloquinone. It is one of the important and indispensable vitamins in the human body.

Vitamin K2 comes in 14 forms, usually represented by the letters MK, namely MK-4, MK-7, MK-8, MK-9, etc. The most common are synthetic MK-4 and natural MK-7, which are important for bone health and cardiovascular health.

The activity of vitamin K2 is related to the length of the side chain. The longer the side chain, the better the absorption, the higher the biological activity and the longer the existence in the blood. Among them, vitamin K2-7 (i.e. MK-7) is the most unique of the vitamin K2 family, having been shown to have the highest bioavailability and a long half-life in the blood after oral ingestion, enabling it to exert its benefits over a longer time period.

The safety benefit of vitamin K2 has long been recognized by all countries, and its safety has been recognized by many countries and institutions such as FDA and EU. At present, vitamin K2 has been widely used as food additive or nutritional supplement in many countries and regions.

The function and safety of vitamin K2-7 has been approved by the United States FDA. WHO statistics show that vitamin K2, especially the long chain vitamin K2 in the form of vitamin K2-7, is recognized as a high quality natural vitamin K2. In 2008, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) published a positive scientific opinion regarding the use of vitamin K2-7 from natto as a dietary supplement and food additive. In 2009, the EU Food Safety Commission gave a positive assessment of vitamin K2's claims to reduce bone loss and improve bone integrity, and Natto-derived vitamin K2-7 was approved as a new resource food. China also officially approved vitamin K2 as a nutritional fortification supplement to be included in the National Nutritional Fortification Catalog (14880) in 2016.
