Contraindicated Use Of Lipoic Acid

1. Good blood glucose monitoring: Lipoic acid may improve the sensitivity of cells in non-insulin-dependent (type II) diabetes mellitus to insulin, so it may be necessary to lower the dose of hypoglycemic drugs. For diabetics who are already taking hypoglycemic drugs, it is better to regularly monitor blood glucose within one to two weeks after taking lipoic acid to avoid hypoglycemia.
2. Avoid taking it with minerals: lipoic acid will chelate heavy metals, so it may also reduce minerals in the body (such as iron) and worsen anemia. Long-term use of lipoic acid should be supplemented with minerals.
3. Avoid taking with acid-making agent: lipoic acid interacts with acid-making agent stomach medicine, so it should be avoided to combine with acid-making agent.
4. Disabled thyroid dysfunction: lipoic acid and thyroxine will interact, cause palpitation, therefore, ham thyroid function or hyperthyroidism people should avoid taking high doses of lipoic acid.
5. Do not drink too much: lipoic acid may cause thiamine (vitamin B1) deficiency, alcoholism and taking lipoic acid will worsen the deficiency of vitamin B1, carbohydrate metabolism needs the participation of B group vitamins to produce energy. Side effects can be avoided by taking lipoic acid in combination with B-complex.
