Side effects and contraindications of coenzyme Q10
Leave a message
In all studies, coenzyme Q10 is considered to be a high safety health food, and no side effects have been observed. In animal studies, ultra high doses of 1200mg/kg daily (for one year) and in human studies 900mg daily (for four weeks) have been used, and no adverse effects have been observed. In a small number of cases, stomach upset and itchy skin symptoms after taking the drug were determined not to be caused by coenzyme Q10. However, it should be noted that coenzyme Q10 has a slight effect on lowering blood sugar, so please use it carefully for diabetics. In addition, coenzyme Q10 can reduce the function of anticoagulant drugs, so it should not be taken together with anticoagulant drugs (such as warfarin). Pregnant women, nursing mothers, children and patients with poor liver and kidney function should use it with caution. The main points to note are as follows:
● The safety of coenzyme Q10 in pregnant or nursing women has not been evaluated.
● Children can safely take coenzyme Q10 at a dose of 10 mg/kg/ day for no more than nine months under the guidance of doctors.
● To prevent drug interactions, diabetics taking blood thinners are advised to take them as prescribed by their doctor.
● Coenzyme Q10 may lower blood pressure and should be stopped at least two weeks before surgery to prevent it from affecting blood pressure levels.
● Taking coenzyme Q10 may interfere with the blood-thinning effects of warfarin (which has anticoagulant effects).
● Taking 100 mg or more coenzyme Q10 at night may cause mild insomnia.
● Experiments have shown that coenzyme Q10 may reduce the effectiveness of cancer radiotherapy.
● Coenzyme Q10 can be used as an adjunct to the treatment of heart failure, but should not be used as the primary treatment.
